The way that we grow in Christ is when opposition comes against us and we then in turn overcome that opposition. In order to become the best servants we can be for our Master, there are things in our lives that need to be removed, and the removal process comes through trials. When we are finished works, we will be like the instruments used in the temple – they were covered with gold when they were complete.
Sin can be defined as “Self Indulgence Now” – it is us living for ourselves, not for others. Christ didn’t save us just so that we can live our own lives and be happy and content – He saved us to live for Him and for others. If we’re not seeing the fullness of life that Christ intended for us, we need to consider our ways – are we living for ourselves? Are we sowing chaos, turmoil and selfishness? The abundant life of Christ can only come when we live and walk according to the Spirit. Walking according to the flesh only brings death.
We are commanded to put sin to death in our lives, not continue to live with it. This is not a one-time event either – we need to put sin to death in our lives daily.
