There are three minds that the Bible talks about: the natural mind, the carnal mind and the spiritual mind. (It also discusses the reprobate mind, but we will exclude that for the purposes of this teaching). All three are present in the church today. We will know what kind of heart we have based on what comes out of our mouth (out the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks). There are several pathways into the heart
- Feelings
- What we see/look at
- What we hear/what other people say to us
- The words that come out of our own mouths
When we look at the natural mind, we see one that cannot understand or accept the things of God. To a natural mind, the things of God are foolishness. The things of God must be spiritually discerned and this cannot be accomplished with a natural mind.
The carnal minded Christian is worried more about the things of this world than the things of God. They are not mature – as Paul said they need the milk of the word because they cannot yet handle the meat. Unlike a natural-minded person, the carnally-minded loves Jesus and is saved.
