In order to enter truly into the abundant life, we must be spiritually minded, not carnally minded. The carnal mind is only aware of and concerned with natural and physical things. The abundant life needs to be about establishing relationship with Christ for its own sake, not just to get stuff down here. When our relationship with the Lord becomes all about the natural, we will eventually walk away when we don’t get what we want – like the seed planted stony ground. Being carnally minded will lead to death, not to abundant life.
Part of our battle is to remain spiritually minded. Peter, when he walked on the water, started out spiritually minded. He took his eyes off the Lord, however, and looked around at the raging storm, went back into a carnal mindset and began to sink. Paul wrote to the Galatian church asking them if they, starting out in the spirit, were going to finish in the flesh. Even John the Baptist
