The favor of men might help a little, but never as much as the favor of God. King Asa had seen God deliver Judah from the Ethiopians, but when Israel later came against them He chose instead to make a treaty with another king. The favor of man cost the king all of the treasure of Judah, the opportunity to defeat the Syrians and the peace of the nation (the prophet declared that there would be wars for the rest of Asa’s days). By contrast, the favor of God has no such strings attached. The favor of God also does not need to be earned – God gave it to us when we accepted His Son as our savior.
Walking in the favor of God is the same as walking in love. Enoch walked with God and was taken up without death, because he pleased God. We know that it is impossible to please God without faith and that we can only walk in faith if we are first walking in love.
