-
Greek Word deilia: Timidity, fearfulness, cowardice
-
Fear is an evil Spirit
-
-
It competes against the Holy Spirit for control over our lives.
-
This spirit seeks to control and dominate us. It puts us in bondage.
-
Contrast with the freedom that the Holy Spirit brings us (2 Cor. 3:17)
-
It aims to paralyze and ultimately destroy us
-
-
This spirit is not from the Lord
-
It brings with it torment (or punishment)
-
It’s also driven out by perfect love (1 John 4:18)
-
-
Fear brings division.
-
We’ll push others away
-
-
-
You cannot walk in Christ’s true love towards someone when you’re walking in fear
-
It promotes self
-
Contrast with love which brings a desire to lift up others (Phil 2:1-4, Romans 15:1-3)
-
-
Fear causes you to do just enough to scrape by
-
The Lord desires that we work heartily and do things with excellence (Col. 3:23)
-
He desires to promote us for the purposes of His glory
-
Daniel
-
Joseph
-
He’s not going to promote someone who’s just scraping by (Prov. 22:29)
-
-
-
Freedom From Fear
-
Recognize it
-
If we don’t know it’s there, we’ll never deal with it.
-
Fear is very insidious and it will hide deep.
-
If often masquerades itself so well that we think it’s just part of our personality and who we are.
-
God will reveal it to us.
-
-
Repent
-
Confess to the Lord that you’ve been submitting to the spirit of fear, ask His forgiveness (1 John 1:9)
-
Make the decision to turn away from fear.
-
-
Replace it
-
You cannot have a spiritual vacuum inside of you.
- Once you have evicted the spirit of fear, you will need to replace it with the Holy Spirit otherwise it will return.
