Everyone has a list of wants. Knowing the Lord needs to be at the top of that list. How often do things other than knowing Him get to the top of our list? When that happens, we don’t get the things that we want. Knowing Him and developing our relationship with Him will cause the important things to come into our lives. When our desires for anything other than God get above God, He needs to stop for a bit. He knows that if we receive our desires we will stop pressing in to Him.
The promises in Psalm 23 are conditional upon the Lord being our shepherd. Shepherds go before their sheep to lead and guide them. They won’t go behind the sheep and push them. The Lord does not push us from behind – He leads us and we need to follow Him.
