When David wrote Psalm 23, he was identifying as one of God’s sheep. This was under the Old Covenant. Jesus later told His disciples that as they obeyed Him they were His friends, no longer servants. We also know that if we have the Spirit of God in us, we can move up yet another rung from sheep to friends to sons of God. If we are sons of God, then we are also heirs with Christ! If we are heirs with Christ, then we are entitled to all that Christ inherits from the Father – all that is written in His Testament. We are His beneficiaries!
What do we inherit? Christ’s glory, His riches and His love. We also inherit the same power that Jesus operated in. This power is to get the job done that He has given us to do while still on earth.
The condition of the sheep reflects on the shepherd. The state of our lives reflects on the Father. He desires us to have abundant life to overcome all evil and bring Him glory.
